Terms of service
- These terms are a contract between your company and Honeyp AI, Inc., which runs honeyp.ai. Please read them.
- honeyp.ai gives you a risk score and a suggested decision for each signup. You decide what to do with it, and you're responsible for those decisions and for telling your users about the check.
- Don't use honeyp.ai for credit, employment, housing, insurance, education, healthcare or similar decisions about people.
- Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel. There's no free plan: without one, we stop checking, but your signups keep working.
- When we process your users' personal data, our Data Processing Agreement applies too.

1. The agreement
These terms of service ("Terms") are an agreement between Honeyp AI, Inc., a Delaware corporation that operates honeyp.ai ("honeyp.ai", "we", "us"), and the business that signs up for or uses the service ("Customer", "you"). The person accepting them confirms they have authority to bind that business.
The agreement is made up of these Terms, our Data Processing Agreement ("DPA"), and any order form or written contract we both sign ("Order Form"). If they conflict, the Order Form wins, then the DPA (for personal data), then these Terms. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal data as a company.
2. Accounts and eligibility
- honeyp.ai is for businesses. You must be at least 18 and use it for a business, not personal or household purposes.
- Keep the details on your account accurate. Everyone you invite to your team acts on your behalf, and you're responsible for what they do in your account.
- Keep your secret API keys secret: only on your servers, never in a web page or app. Publishable keys may appear in your web pages and are limited to the websites you allow. Tell us straight away at support@honeyp.ai if you think a key or account has been compromised, and revoke the key in your dashboard.
3. The service
honeyp.ai checks new signups to your product for signs of automated or abusive account creation, using the information you send us and signals from our browser snippet. For each signup we return a risk score, reasons and a suggested decision, such as how much free credit to give. The service includes the API, the browser snippet, the dashboard and related documentation.
- Shadow mode. New accounts start in shadow mode, where every signup is checked and shown to you, but the response always suggests full credit. You choose when to switch to enforce mode.
- Fail open. Our examples and SDKs treat an unreachable service as "allow", so an outage on our side doesn't block your users. We recommend you keep it that way.
- Changes. We improve the service continually and may change or retire features. We won't make a change that materially reduces the core service during a paid term without telling you at least 30 days ahead.
- Early access. Features or plans we label beta, preview or design-partner are provided to get your feedback, may change, and are offered "as is" without any service level.
4. Your decisions and your users
Our results are probabilistic signals. They will sometimes flag real people and miss abusive ones. You decide how to use them, and you agree to:
- use honeyp.ai only to protect your product against fraud, abuse and automated signups;
- tell your users, in your own privacy notice, that signups are checked for fraud and abuse with the help of a service provider, and have a lawful basis to do so;
- give people a way to reach you if they think they were wrongly limited or blocked, and have a person review it where the law requires (for example under GDPR Article 22);
- avoid blocking people based on our result alone where a lighter step, such as reduced credit or an extra verification, would do.
5. Acceptable use
You must not, and must not let anyone else:
- use honeyp.ai, or its results, to make decisions about a person's credit, lending, employment, housing, insurance, education, healthcare, government benefits or anything with similar legal or significant effects;
- use it to discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age or any other protected characteristic;
- use it for products directed at children under 13 (or the higher age set by local law) without telling us first;
- send us data you have no right to share, special-category or sensitive personal data (such as health, biometric or financial account data), or payment card numbers;
- use the snippet or our results to track people across websites, for advertising, or to build profiles for any purpose other than securing your signups;
- probe, test or overload the service, bypass its limits or security, or access other customers' data;
- copy, reverse engineer or resell the service, or use it to build a competing product or train a model that does the same job;
- break any law, including privacy, consumer-protection, export-control and sanctions laws.
We may suspend use that breaks this section, as described in section 11.
6. Trials, plans and payment
- Free trial. Trials last 14 days unless we tell you otherwise and include a number of signup checks. There's no free plan: when a trial ends without a paid plan, or a paid plan ends, we stop checking your signups until you choose a plan. Each company gets one free trial: we recognise a company by its websites and work-email domains, including the websites where our snippet runs, and a further trial account for the same company doesn't get free checks.
- When we stop checking (the trial's checks are used up, the trial has ended, or there's no paid plan), your signups keep working: we answer every request as if honeyp.ai weren't there (allow, full credits), and we email you before and when it happens. Your history stays in your dashboard.
- Plans and prices are shown on our website and in your dashboard, or set out in an Order Form. Each plan includes a monthly volume of signup checks; on paid plans, checks above it are billed as overage at your plan's rate, per started 1,000, monthly in arrears, and we never stop checking because you've gone over.
- Renewal. Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime in your dashboard; the plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Payment. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our online orders: it processes your payment (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal), adds and handles any sales tax or VAT, issues your receipts and invoices, and handles billing questions and refunds under its own buyer terms. Invoices under an Order Form are due within 30 days. Fees are in US dollars and exclude taxes, which you pay (other than taxes on our income).
- Failed payments. If a payment fails and isn't fixed within 14 days, we may end your paid plan, which stops checking as described above. Your signups themselves are never blocked because of billing.
- Refunds. We refund your first payment for a paid plan in full if you ask within 14 days of it (once per company), and refund unused account credit on request when you cancel. Otherwise fees are non-refundable except where the law requires, or where we end the agreement without cause, in which case we refund the unused part of any prepaid fees. Details are in our refund policy.
- Price changes take effect at your next renewal, with at least 30 days' notice by email.
7. Data and privacy
- Your data. You own the data you send us and the results we return about your signups ("Customer Data"). You give us the right to use it only to provide, secure and support the service for you, as set out in the DPA.
- Personal data. For your users' personal data, you are the controller and we are your processor (a "service provider" under California law). The DPA applies automatically, and forms part of these Terms.
- Service data. We may use aggregated, de-identified information about how the service performs, such as decision rates and error rates, that doesn't identify you or any person, to run and improve honeyp.ai. We never sell Customer Data or use it for advertising.
- Retention. You choose how long signup checks are kept (up to 90 days on Trial and Starter, 180 on Growth and 365 on Enterprise; 30 by default). You can download or delete your data from the dashboard at any time.
8. Support and availability
We provide support through your dashboard and by email, with the first-response targets for your plan shown in the Support tab. We work to keep honeyp.ai available around the clock, but unless an Order Form includes a service level agreement, we don't guarantee any particular uptime, and planned maintenance may occasionally interrupt it.
9. Ownership and feedback
We own honeyp.ai, including its software, models, rules, documentation and the honeyp™ trademark. These Terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for your business while the agreement lasts; they don't transfer any ownership. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely without owing you anything. We won't name you as a customer publicly without your permission.
10. Confidentiality
Each of us will keep the other's non-public information that is marked confidential or is obviously confidential (including Customer Data, API keys, pricing in an Order Form and our non-public technical details) confidential, use it only for this agreement, and share it only with people who need it and are bound to keep it confidential. This doesn't cover information that is public through no fault of the recipient, was already known to it, is independently developed, or must be disclosed by law (with notice where allowed).
11. Term, suspension and termination
- The agreement starts when you first accept these Terms or use the service and lasts until it's ended.
- You can end it anytime by deleting your account in the dashboard (after cancelling any paid plan) or by emailing us.
- We can end it with 30 days' notice, or straight away if you materially breach these Terms and don't fix it within 15 days of notice, or if you break section 5 in a serious way.
- We may suspend access, limited to what's needed, if your use threatens the security or stability of the service or other customers, or breaks the law or section 5. We'll tell you why and restore access once it's resolved.
- After termination your right to use the service ends, you pay any fees owed, and we delete Customer Data within 30 days, as described in the DPA. Sections 7, 9, 10, 12 to 14 and 16 continue to apply.
12. Warranties and disclaimers
Each of us confirms it has the authority to enter this agreement. We will provide the service with reasonable skill and care, consistent with these Terms and the DPA.
Otherwise, the service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the service will catch all abuse, never flag a real person, or be uninterrupted or error-free.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- neither of us is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data, even if told they were possible; and
- each party's total liability arising out of this agreement is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that caused it, or US$100 if that's more.
These limits don't apply to your payment obligations, a breach of section 5, either party's indemnity obligations, or liability that can't be limited by law.
14. Indemnities
We will defend you against third-party claims that the service, as we provide it, infringes their intellectual property, and pay the resulting damages or settlement we agree to. If that happens we may change the service to avoid it or, if that isn't reasonable, end the affected service and refund prepaid fees. This doesn't cover claims caused by your data, your changes, or combining the service with things we didn't provide.
You will defend us against third-party claims arising from your Customer Data, your decisions about your users, or your breach of section 5, and pay the resulting damages or settlement you agree to.
The party being defended must tell the other promptly, let it control the defence, and cooperate reasonably.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, email account owners at least 30 days before they take effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using the service and cancel before then; continuing to use it after that means you accept the change. Changes don't affect a signed Order Form during its term.
16. General
- Governing law and courts. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, and both of us consent to them.
- Notices. We send notices to your account owner's email. Send notices to us at support@honeyp.ai.
- Assignment. Neither of us may transfer this agreement without the other's consent, except to a successor in a merger, acquisition or sale of substantially all the relevant business, with notice.
- Force majeure. Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as outages of the internet or of major infrastructure providers, natural disasters or government action.
- Export and sanctions. You won't use the service in, or make it available to anyone in, a country or to a person subject to US sanctions.
- Independent parties. We're independent contractors. Nothing here creates a partnership or agency, or gives rights to anyone else.
- Whole agreement. This agreement is the whole agreement on its subject. If a part can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a right isn't a waiver of it. Your purchase-order terms don't apply.
